After so many entries in Tiny Art’s colouring in competition 2 months ago to create a unique design for ‘Arty the Snail’ Lisa was crowned the winner with her bright and bold colour choices.
On Saturday I had the pleasure of holding the art party for Lisa and 4 of her friends. Lisa decided that she wanted to create a Mandala which is a special circle picture/artwork. Mandalas have Hindu and Buddist origins where they are an aid to meditation whilst being created and looked upon. They are usually very colourful and can be created from sand, paint, embroidered.
We created our Mandalas using a range of paints, pens, pastels and collage items. We started from the outside of the circle and worked towards the centre all the while thinking about colour choice, pattern, repetition and taking deep breaths as we did so. When the middle was reached, we created the centre of the circle by creating ‘Repousse’ – a metal working technique. We achieved this metal embossed look by using card, foil and brightly coloured pens over the top.
I’m sure you’ll agree that the girls did a great job creating Mandalas. Check out all of the pictures on our Facebook page.
Congratulations again Lisa for winning the competition.
